Nepal and Bhutan Tour (9 Days)

The Bhutanese call their country Druk Yul or the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Our Nepal & Bhutan Tour is by name a comprehensive tour package in which you will get a chance to see everything that the Druk Yul has to offer along with some noticeable glimpse of Kathmandu. On this tour, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with some major heritage sites and architectural values of Kathmandu valley with spectacular mountain scenery of remarkable natural beauty and remote and dramatic monasteries of Bhutan that rule in the pristine and intact Bhutanese landscape. Above all, you will get a chance to interact with the local people and to witness the way of life in Bhutan and Kathmandu.

Important Note and Optional Activities
Your safety is of paramount concern whilst traveling with Nepal Assemble Treks. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, as this is adventure travel in remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it! Weather conditions, health condition of a member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel.
You will be welcomed by the boss of company at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1300m).After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our company display board at the arrival gate. You will be  transfer to Hotel. After check in, you will visit our office; meet your trekking guide as well as other participants. Later in the evening we will organize a “Welcome Dinner” at an excellent tourist Restaurant where you will enjoy with a fine meal. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02:  Full day Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley and trek preparation.
Full day of sightseeing in the very famous capital, Kathmandu. We will be visiting of the famous heritage sites in Kathmandu Nepal.

Morning, we will start from your hotel by a morning walk in the blocked alleyways of Kathmandu. Your first contact with the smiling Nepalese people.We begins to cross the nice area of Thamel, full of nice shops, bars and restaurants. We will see during this walk many temples and stupas: it will be for you the beginning of religious lessons, making the difference between Buddhists stupas and Hindu temples. You will discover with a great surprise how these two religions live together. We will make a stop at Thahiti Tole, then in front of Kathesimbhu stupa. Always meeting statues and local shops (suits, spices, incenses, and so on) and listening the noise of bells (and of horns), we will see Asan Tole with wonderful Hindu temples then Indra Chowk and Pyaphal Tole. After 2 hours of walk and of wonder, we will arrive at Durbar Square. All the most important monuments of the city are in this area. You will be filled with wonder by all these numerous such majestic and so ancient temples registered in the Heritage of the UNESCO. It is possible to spend hours, sat on the walk of one of these monuments, admiring architecture, considering the animation of places, dreaming. We will take lunch at Durbar Square in the top of a restaurant, with a great plunging view.

Afternoon, you will begin the afternoon by another walk in the streets of Kathmandu, to look at the real face of this city, with local buildings and narrow streets. Then we will arrive at Swayambunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). It is said that Swayambunath Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes knowledge. At the summit of this hill, the painted eyes on all four sides symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from all over the world come. From this place we can have a wonderful panoramic view on all the capital. So great at the end of the day, with the sunset. We will come back hotel by bus.

Evening: Time for you to prepare the trek and we introduce in front of you our crew members. Dinner at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03:   Flight from Kathmandu to Paro
Today, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Paro (2,135m) that offers fascinating views of the eastern Himalayan range of Nepal including the Mt. Everest. On arrival, our Druk Yul representative will pick you up and transfer to the hotel for a short rest and lunch. Later the day, you will explore around the Paro valley, visit one of the strategic but ruined fortress of Drugyul Dzong. From here, on a clear day you can see Mount Jumolhari, Bhutan’s second-highest mountain at 7,314meters. You will continue through the beautiful valley to visit the watch tower, known locally as Ta-Dzong which is now the National Museum of Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 04 Paro-Thimphu 
Today, after breakfast you will hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery, which is Druk Yul most famous monastery situated at 3180 meters. Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up on the mountain. The monastery is perched on the edge of a steep cliff, about 900 meters above Paro Valley. After having explored the monastery, you will hike down to Paro. Then drive to Thimphu, capital city of Bhutan. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.

 Day 05:  Thimphu-Wangduephodrang 
Today, after breakfast you will explore the major sites of Thimphu on a relaxed guided tour. Highlights include the memorial Chorten built in memory of the late third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, commanding 15th century Changangkha Temple, the traditional indigenous hospital, the National Library with its treasure troves of manuscripts and ancient texts and the traditional painting school where education is free for students to learn the ancient skills of traditional painting. Later on, you will drive through beautiful countryside to Wangduephodrang across the Dochula Pass, where on a clear day you can get spectacular views of the Himalayas. From the pass, drive downhill through the forests of rhododendron, fir and hemlock. Check into the hotel on arrival. Overnight at hotel in Wangduephodrang.

Day 06:  Wangduephodrang-Paro
This morning, after breakfast, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, which is stunningly situated in between the male and female rivers like an anchored ship. On the way back, you will visit Chimi Lhakhang, which is a fertility temple dedicated to Divine Madman or Lama Drukpa Kuenley. If you wish, receive the blessing from the Lama’s wooden phallus! Continue drive to Paro via Dochu La Pass. Here, you will visit the new Druk Wangyal Monastery, which is the only of its kind in the country with elaborate paintings depicting the lineage of the present monarchy and their visionary works. Stop in Thimphu for lunch. Later in the evening, you can drive to Paro. Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 07:  Paro-Kathmandu 
Today, After breakfast you will be back to Kathmandu from Druk Yul. This morning we will transfer you to the Paro airport to catch your short but very scenic flight to reach Kathmandu that goes again above the massive Himalayan range such as Mt Everest, Kanchenjunga, Chomolhari, Tsrim Gang and Jichu Drake. On arrival at Kathmandu, we will pick you up and transfer to the hotel. Remaining time you can just rest and relax at the hotel or can explore surrounding areas in Kathmandu. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 08:  Leisure at Kathmandu 
After a wonderful visit to Druk Yul, today is a free day at Kathmandu to relax at the hotel and watch and observe Nepalese lifestyle or if interested you may extend your trip as additional sightseeing or one hour Himalayan flight on request. Today, you can do your last minute shopping for souvenirs or gift to your family, friends or relatives. Overnight at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 09:  Transfer to international airport for your final departure
You are saying good bye to the mountains as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. You will be transferred to the Airport before 2 hours of flight with nice farewell. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Trip cost does not include:


* Nepal Visa fee (bring small denomination USD cash and two passport photographs)
* International airfare.
* Excess baggage charges.
* Lunch and evening meals in Kathmandu(and also in the case of early return from the mountain than the scheduled itinerary).
* Extra night accommodation in Kathmandu because of early arrival, late departure, and early return from the mountain(due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary.
* Travel and rescue insurance.
* Personal expenses (phone calls, laundry, bar bills, extra porters, bottled or boiled water, etc).
* Bhutan visa fee

Note: All participants have to give a copy of their insurance, with the address, tel and fax number of insurance company. This insurance has to cover the helicopter rescue in case of accident or sickness. In case of your insurance don’t cover helicopter rescue, you have to fill a form in Kathmandu and make agreement that you will pay yourself the amount of expenses paid by Nepal Assemble Treks for your helicopter rescue or research. Without this agreement, you cannot participate in trek.
In The trek the guide is allowed to change the itinerary, depending of the weather, climate and the physical condition of participants. Each participant who stop his trek or make changes any form of program may not ask any money compensation to the agency.
