Tamang Heritage Trail (15 Days)

Tamang Haritage Trail Previously a restricted area near the Tibetan border, the Tamang heritage trekking trail at Rasuwa in Nepal, as part of Langtang trekking, forms the prime attraction of newly opened trekking destinations in Nepal. As a non-tourist trekking area in Nepal the Langtang trek with new trekking trails highlights the ancient lifestyle of indigenous Tamang people who migrated into Nepal form Tibet centuries ago.

Tamang Heritage  Trail starts either from Dhunche or from Shyabru bensi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Thuman, Timure and Briddim.The trail may end back in Shyabru Bensi or follow the Langtang trek from Briddim village via Khanjim.Goljung, Thuman and Gatlang are traditional Tamang village. While Goljung has ancient monastery, Gatlang set high on a hillside among terraced fields is the Tamang settlement.One can also visit a Tamang monastery and the beautiful Parbhatikunda Lake at Gatlang. From the view point of Nagthali near these settlements, one can also see a panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal ranges.

After the trek several days, bathing in the hot, healing waters of the natural spring at Tatopani and route from Gatlang to Chilime is an exhilarating experience. Brimdang offers cultural experience at community – run Home stay, while Nagthali at Thuman VDC is surrounded by beautiful view of Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal ranges.Nagthali used to be a popular meditation center for Monks and priests. Next is Timure on the old trade route to Tibet.A fort at Rasuwaghadi in Timure is a historical reminder of the Nepal Tibet relationship that had existed for many centuries. A suspension bridge link Nepal and Tibet.

Tamang Heritage Trail ends at Briddim which lies on the lap of Langtang Himal.Briddim offers warm Tamang hospitality at the home-stays service run by community members. In addition, visitors can also visit local monasteries of Dukchu Gompa(monastery) chosen as sacred site by the great Tibetan Lama – Guru Rimpochhe and Chukla Khnaga Gompa.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01. Arrival at Kathmandu (1310m), transfer from airport to hotel.

Upon  arrival in Kathmandu. Our company president will be waiting outside the airport terminal a few meters from the exit door. Please check your name at play card. He will bring you to hotel in Kathmandu. The drive from the airport to the hotel is around 30 minutes.

Day 02. Sightseeing in Kathmandu Historical City and Trek Preparation

Full day of sightseeing in the very famous capital, Kathmandu. We will be visit the famous heritage sites in Kathmandu.

Morning:

We will start from your hotel by a morning walk in the blocked alleyways of Kathmandu. Your first contact with the smiling Nepalese people. We begin to cross the nice area of Thamel, full of nice shops, bars and restaurants.

We will see during this walk many temples and stupas: it will be for you the beginning of religious lessons, making the difference between Buddhists stupas and Hindu temples. You will discover with a great surprise how these two religions live together.

We will make a stop at Thahiti Tole, then in front of Kathesimbhu stupa. Always meeting statues and local shops (suits, spices, incenses, and so on) and listening the noise of bells (and of horns), we will see Asan Tole with wonderful Hindu temples. Then Indra Chowk and Pyaphal Tole. After 2 hours of walk and of wonder, we will arrive at Durbar Square.

Kathmandu Durbar Square situated the center of Kathmandu where you can see the House of Living Goddess “KUMARI” Kasthamandup temple” Said that was built from single tree in 16th century, big bell-big drams, erotic carving in old temple, old palace etc. All the most important monuments of the city are in this area. You will be filled with wonder by all these numerous such majestic and so ancient temples

registered in the Heritage of the UNESCO. It is possible to spend hours, sat on the walk of one of these monuments, admiring architecture, considering the animation of places, dreaming. We will take lunch at the top of a restaurant, with a great plunging view.

Afternoon.

You will begin the afternoon by another walk in the streets of Kathmandu, to look at the real face of this city, with local buildings and narrow streets. Then we will arrive at Swayambunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). Swayambunath stupa has it that Manjushree, found of Kathmandu valley, and discovered the lotus of ancient valley lake on which site the great stupa of Swayambunath was later built. The omni sighted stare of Buddha greets visitors & residents alike compassion. This is one of the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world, which has been registered in UNESCO heritage side.  It is said that Swayambunath Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes knowledge. At the summit of this hill, the painted eyes on all four sides symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from all over the world.

From this place we can have a wonderful panoramic view on all the capital. So great at the end of the day, with the sunset. We will come back hotel by bus.

Evening: Time for you to prepare the trek and we introduce in front of you our crew members. Overnight at hotel

Day 03. Kathmandu – Dhunche (1960m) – Syabrubesi (1.450m) (9h00 by bus)

The bus journey will take 8 to 9 hrs. Dhuche is capital of this region. where it has a bazar and all the govt offices. You are heading  north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Dhunche or Syaprubesi. While passing along the road on the bank of the Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. Overnight at Syaprubesi.

Day 04. Trek Syabrubesi – Bahundada (2.187m) – Gatlang (2.238m) (6h00 walk) 

Till to the Tea break at Bahundada is all the going uphill which is hard takes around 2.30 hrs and after that it is easy walking around 3 hours on motarable trails to reach the beautiful Tamang village called Gatlang which is the place for  our camp that is community lodge  and the lunch . A viewpoint has been built at Bahundanda from where one can see the panoramic view of Langtang, Kerung, Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal range and also different villages of  Goljung and Chilime . Gatlang is blended with the presence of holy Lake

Parvatikund that lies around 2550m. Gatlang is the largest Tamang settlement made up of stone wall and wooden roof. A visit to Gatlang village offers an experience of liveTamang museum. Gatlang villages are especially popular for their rich Tamang culture,architecture and lifestyle. Gatlang is especially famous for its houses of

wooden roof, beautiful Gomba and beautifully embroidered hats and live craftsmanship. They are Buddhist by religion  and they decorate their houses with the Buddhist’s symbol. Prayer flags, prayer wheels, prayer walls are some of the decorational pieces. Overnight at Gatlang (Community Lodge).

Day 05. Trek Gatlang – Tatopani (2.607m) (5h00 walk)  

This day 1.30 hrs is easy going down the mix trails that is gradually down hill and slopes till to reach the tea break at chilime which is around 1762m. After that it will be going up hill which is bit hard  to reach the lunch break at Gonggang which is around 2227m. After that it will be gradually going up to the camp.One the way one can view beautiful landscapes and rock mountains with tiny village down the hill and to the opposite hill. Tatopnai trail through  Chilime VDC   is famous for its popular natural hot water

spring, possibly the biggest hot spring water in Nepal. The place get usually crowded with people from different part of Nepal coming there with the strong believed of getting heal  from skin diseases and muscles ache. Overnight atTatopani (Lodge).

Day 06. Trek Tatopani – Nagthali (3.165m) (3h00 walk)

This will be the short camp comparatively to the other will be easy walking through the jungle except some part till to reach the Tea break at Brimdang which is around 2848m and takes 2.15 hrs time. It is a small village of Tamang and can also observe the small monastery out there. After that small tea break it will be all the way going up the hill which is hard  reaching to the top of the hill where the camp is situated and that takes around 1.15 hrs . Nagthali,on the other hand offers the Kaleidoscopic view of Langtang, Kerung,Ganesh Himal and Sanjen Himal range. It is belived that Nagthali was the

meditation centre of the ancient Great Tibetan Lamas. It is always worthwhile to reach to that point which is offcourse the highest point of the trails. Overnight at Nagthali (lodge).

Day 07. Trek Nagthali – Thuman – Briddhim (2.230m) (6h00 walk)

It will  all the way going steppy down the hill through the small village name Thuman where there will be the stop for the Tea break and that takes around 2hrs. Thuman VDC is popular for the Tamang-Tibeto cultural and tradition which one can observe on the way. After the short break it is again going steepy down the hill to reach the river called Bhotekoshi which means river from Tibet takes around 2 hrs for the lunch break at the place name Lingling that is situated around 1737m. Then need to get ready for sweating to ascend the hill(uphill-hard) which takes around 2hrs to reach the beautiful home stay village. This hub is popular for its Homestay village that lies at the laps of Langtang Himal. and One can surely experience the Tamang-Tibetan culture with the accommodation facilities at typical Tamang house. The stay at Briddim is managed by the Homestay management committee. Overnight atThuman Bridim (Home stay).

Day 08. Trek Briddhim – Sherpagaon (2.563m) (5h00 walk)

The trails follow the easy gradually going up through the jungle where one can see different birds an including the National bird called Danfe and different animals like deer till to the next spot for the tea break at Khanjim which lies around 2235m  and that takes around 2 hrs. and can observe the beautiful hills having some drink break in this small village. And then walking around 3 hrs that is 1 hrs medium hard up hills and 2 hrs in an easy mix trails landed to the camp where one can enjoy the beautiful of  landscapes and its peaceful surroundings. Overnight at Sherpagoau (lodge).

Day 09. Trek Sherpagaon – Thyangsyap (3.205m) (5h00 walk)  

After breakfast we have easy walking follow the downhill to reach the Langtang River for tea break at Rimche which is around 2455m. it takes around 1.30 hrs to reach the place which  is common point that separated the way to the Langtang trekking too.  From here trek another haif an hour to reach Lama Hotel. From here trail ascent through rhododendendron forest and walking through bank of Langtang khola. To reach place called River side. From where one can have good views of river and forest. Here we will break for lunch. After lunch trail become easier and wider till Ghoda Tabela . views of Langtang Lirung can be seen along the way . Where we will stay to night, Overnight at lodge.

Day 10. Trek Thyangsyap – Kyanjin Gumba (3.830m) (5h00 walk)

After Ghoda Tabela  you will walk  through a Rhododendron forest  and to the bank of Langlang Khola.. the ground covered by moss. Trees have ferns and epiphytic orchids on them. It looks like semi tropical jungle. After walking of 3 hours you will reach to Langtang valley. Where are big settlement of mix Tamang and Tibetain people. There are close views of Langtang lirung  ,Ganjala and Naya khangga. Here we will break for Lunch. After lunch we  climb up the road with stone walls and you will come to Chorten of Mani stones .you will see that Langtang Khola gets closer all the time and the valley becomes more open and wider.climb up the rocky moraine ahead and you will reach Khayanjing Gompa.

Day 11. Rest day at Kyanjin Gumba or climbing of Tsergori Peak (5.033m)

Khayanjing Gompa is the last permanent settlement with a small Gompa and a cheese factory. Use it as a base for day hikes, exploring the upper valley try to climbing the small hill north of Khayanjing or Tsergori(5033m). which lies up valley from Khayanjing. Upper valley is ringed by spectacular snow peaks including fluted peak Langtang Lirung and the Tibetan named Dorje Lakpa

Day 12. Trek Kyanjin Gumba – Lama Hotel (2.410m) (6h00 walk)  

From Kyangjin you retrace your route, following the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. After lunch, you continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.

Day 13. Trek Lama Hotel – Syabrubesi (1.458m) (5h00 walk)      

Trail decent through forest and walking through  bank of Langtang Khola  till the place called Landslide. Where we will have a lunch. After lunch it will take about 3 hours to reach Syaprubesi  village. It is last night of our trekking.

Day 14. Syabrubesi – Kathmandu (9h00 by bus)

The bus journey will take 9 hours. Over night at hotel in Kathmandu

Day 15. Departure day

You will be transferred to the Airport before 2 hours of flight with nice farewell. You will  never forget the trek of wonderful country. And have plan for next visit.

Accommodation and meal in the Lodges (local good food ordered by the guide). All the transports (to and from the points of trek and during the trek). Accompanying by a professional guide and a porter for 2 persons, to carry your bags (maximum 20kg for 2 persons). TENT TREK. Trek equipments with professional guide, cook and porters. Lodging under the tents, meals prepared by the cook. IN KATHMANDU: Welcome at the airport, transfer hotel/airport. 4 star hotel with breakfast in Thamel, rooms with double bed/shower, Trek permits and national park, Reconfirmation of return ticket.

THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE : 

The drinks, (out of breakfast tea or coffee) .The lunch and dinner in Kathmandu (except breakfasts), the entry of town and museum, the Nepalese visa fee, all airport tax in Nepal.

Note: All participants have to give a copy of their insurance, with the address, tel and fax number of insurance company. This insurance has to cover the helicopter rescue in case of accident or sickness. In case of your insurance don’t cover helicopter rescue, you have to fill a form in Kathmandu and make agreement that you will pay yourself the amount of expenses paid by Nepal Assemble Treks for your helicopter rescue or research. Without this agreement, you cannot participate in trek.


In The trek
 the guide is allowed to change the itinerary, depending of the weather, climate and the physical condition of participants. Each participant who stop his trek or make changes any form of program may not ask any money compensation to the agency.
