Helambu Village Culture Trek (11 Days)

Helambu is Very famous place in Sindhupalchok district, which is famous for Yolmo Sherpa culture and their tradition. Helambu trek covers the diverse range of brilliant green valley’s “He” means potato and “labhu” means radishes its name exists through this way. Helambu offer many Monastery visit, Rhododendron forest (flower; March/April), superb mountain views, picturesque Sherpa settlements with prayer flags in front of Houses, friendly people and after all unspoiled culture of the area. People here call themselves Sherpas but their relationship with the Sherpa of Solu Khumbu is distant. The dialects spoken are also different. People here follow the Buddhist religion so you will find many old Buddhist monasteries in the villages. One can see the many religiously important places for Buddhist pilgrimage. Tarkeghyang is another Sherpa village along the way. Our trek starts from Kathmandu after driving by bus/car to Sundarijal, which is just 13km from Kathmandu. We then continue ascend to Chisopani where we spend first night just outside valley. Chisopani offer great view of mountain and landscape. Then we make our trek going through Khtumsang, Tharapati, Tarkeghyang, Sarmathang and finally to Melamchipul where we take bus to Kathmandu. Trekking hour is about 5-6 per day.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel
You will be welcomed by the boss of company at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1300m).After completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc) pick up your luggage and look for our company display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to Hotel. After check in, you will visit our office; meet your trekking guide as well as other participants. Later in the evening we will organize a “Welcome Dinner” at an excellent traditional Tourist Restaurant where you will enjoy a fine meal. Overnight at hotel.

 Day 02:  Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley and trek preparation
Full day of sightseeing in the very famous capital, Kathmandu. We will be visiting of the famous heritage sites in Kathmandu Nepal.

Morning, we will start from your hotel by a morning walk in the blocked alleyways of Kathmandu. Your first contact with the smiling Nepalese people. We begins to cross the nice area of Thamel, full of nice shops, bars and restaurants.

We will see during this walk many temples and stupas: it will be for you the beginning of religious lessons, making the difference between Buddhists stupas and Hindu temples. You will discover with a great surprise how these two religions live together.

We will make a stop at Thahiti Tole, then in front of Kathesimbhu stupa. Always meeting statues and local shops (suits, spices, incenses, and so on) and listening the noise of bells (and of horns), we will see Asan Tole with wonderful Hindu temples.

Then Indra Chowk and Pyaphal Tole.

After 2 hours of walk and of wonder, we will arrive at Durbar Square.

All the most important monuments of the city are in this area. You will be filled with wonder by all these numerous such majestic and so ancient temples registered in the Heritage of the UNESCO. It is possible to spend hours, sat on the walk of one of these monuments, admiring architecture, considering the animation of places, dreaming.

We will take lunch at the top of a restaurant, with a great plunging view.

Afternoon, you will begin the afternoon by another walk in the streets of Kathmandu, to look at the real face of this city, with local buildings and narrow streets.

Then we will arrive at Swayambunath Stupa (Monkey Temple). It is said that Swayambunath Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes knowledge. At the summit of this hill, the painted eyes on all four sides symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from all over the world come.

From this place we can have a wonderful panoramic view on all the capital. So great at the end of the day, with the sunset. We will come back hotel by bus. Evening: Time for you to prepare the trek and we introduce in front of you our crew members. Dinner at hotel. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03:  Kathmandu to Chisopani(2150m)
Morning-Breakfast in hotel, and start our Bus ride, which will take one hour to reach Sundarijal. Trail goes uphill through forest to reach to Mul Kharka village (tamang village).

Lunch in Mulkharka, from here enjoy an extraordinary panoramic views of Kathmandu valley and a scattered Tamang village. The trail again ascends through oak forest to a pass called Burlung Bhanjyang. After reaching the ridge, the walk continues on the trail, descending to Chisopani.

Afternoon- The trail goes through fir tree forest and rhododendrons, overnight stay at chisopani in lodge.Chisapani, offers fabulous panoramic views of the Jugal mountain range including Langtang, Ganesh and as far towards Mt.Everest in the far east and Manaslu, Annapurna towards far west.

Day 04:  Chisopani to Gulbhanjang (2142m)
Morning-After breakfast, Trail goes downhill till Pati Bhanjyang . Patibhanjyang is on a saddle at the bottom of the ridge at 1770m. This is a Brahmin & Chhetri village with a few shops & hotels.  after here you have to ascends all the way to Chipling by crossing meadows and fields.

Lunch in chipling (2170m).

Afternoon-There are good mountain views along this stretch of trail. Continuing along the forested ridge, the trail descends to a large Chorten overlooking the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjang. This is a delightful, classic hill village.  Overnight stay at Gulbhanjyang in lodge.

Day 05:  Gul Bhanjang to Tharepati (3597m)
Morning-after breakfast, The trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjang to another pass at 2580m. it climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail, mostly through fir and rhododendron with out permanent settlement . the trail makes some ups and downs passing through forest, across flower-strewn meadows and crossing streams.

Lunch in Mangengoth (3420m).

Afternoon- It finally reaches to Tharepati (3597 m), from where we can view the mountains, and the valley of Melamchigaon, and Tarkegyang. Overnight stay at Tharepati in lodge.

Day 06:  Tharepati to Melamchigaon (2560m)
Morning-After Breakfast Walking down hill in a forest , vegetation changes to scrub bamboo as the route joins a rocky cattle trail towards to stream and traverse to a Chorten and a pasture, the first village since Tharepati.

Afternoon- After crossing suspension bridge in Chhyadi Khola climbs to reach the prosperous Sherpa village of Melamchigaon.

Lunch at Melamchigaon. After lunch, visit village and monastery, take rest with the beauty of nature. Learn about local people and culture. It is a large village with extensive fields of barley, corn and potatoes. Overnight stay at Melamchigaon.

Day 07:   Melamchigaon to Tarkheghang(2560m)
Morning-After breakfast, This day we climb down to Malamchi river. Than ascent all the way to opposite ridge of Tarkhegang, this is exactly same altitude.

Lunch in Tarkado.

Afternoon- village is slightly larger and more commercial and its inhabitants are famous for selling Thangkas. One can view the splendid stone houses of Sherpas.

Evening-Visit the monasteries and village. Tarkeghyang is the largest village in Helambu and the destination for the most trekkers in this region. It is a good place to stay.  Overnight stay at Tarkegyang.

Day 08:         Takheghang to Kakani (2000m)
Morning-after breakfast we start our trek. Today, you will visit Shermathang village and descends the ridge with a view to Melamchi bazaar (local market).

Lunch at Shermathang.

The path becomes a gentle ascent and leads to the pass below the crematory painted Chhorten trek until to reach Chautara at the end of ridge. Overnight stay at Kakani.

 

Day 09: Kakani to Melamchipul 
Morning-after breakfast, without climbing the hills, the trail goes through Dubhachaur and Kaphalgiri village (crowded with thatched roof houses). Go through the pine forest path become like a steep ditch.

Lunch at tallathok.

Afternoon-Cross through the wooden bridge at Melamchi Khola you will reach to Melamchipul bazaar.it through meadows and cultivated fields. On the way, you come across several old villages with their own particular tradition. Walking this day is quite pleasant with mountain views and interaction with local people.

Day 10: Melamchipul to Kathmandu

After breakfast drive to Kathmandu, it will take 4 hours to be there. Afternoon is separated for your shopping, and preparation for next day departure. Our office provides “Farewell Dinner” including all the crew members of the Trek. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 11:  Last day of Yours Trip

You are saying good bye to the mountains as your journey in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. You will be transferred to the Airport before 2 hours of flight with nice farewell. On your way home you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

Price does not include:
* Lunch and dinner in Kathmandu (except breakfast)
* Personal beverages throughout the stay or trek, (except teas or coffee in breakfast).
* Entries monuments, cities and museums
* Your insurance
* Nepal visa (40 dollars in cash)
* Airport taxes for domestic personal drinks (alcoholic drinks, mineral water, cold drinks), cigarettes, clients personal insurance, any kind of unforeseen expenses etc.

Note: All participants must submit a copy of their insurance, with address, phone and fax from the insurance company. This insurance must cover the helicopter rescue in case of accident or illness. In the event that your insurance does not cover the helicopter rescue, you must complete a Kathmandu and sign an agreement stating that you pay yourself the amount of expenses paid by Nepal Treks Assemble your helicopter rescue or fees of research. Without this agreement, you may not participate in this trek.

During the duration of the trek, the guide is allowed to change the route depending on weather, climate and the physical condition of participants. Each participant who stop his trek or make changes to the program may not claim any compensation money to the agency.
